2007: In Review

I think it is time for a wrap-up of the year 2007. In the Binkley household, it would definitely have to be crowned the "Year of Technology". We finally got somewhat caught up with the rest of the world. (And when we finally get our new flat-screen HDTV in a few weeks, we will really be on our way.)

2007 was the year of us upgrading from dial-up internet to DSL. This opened the door for me to no longer tie up our phone line, blog and post pictures in a reasonable amount of time, and actually watch things like youtube.

2007 was also the year of us finally getting more than 30 cable channels and getting the life-changing DVR. I cannot believe we ever watched TV without it!

2007 was the year that Gary and Zach began using the PlayStation 2 that had collected dust for the past three years and was also the year Zach acquired a GameCube from his cousin. It has been Lego Star Wars mania over here!

2007 could also be crowned the "Year of Transition" as we eased into some different schedules. (Though 2006 probably would have better earned that title....)

Zach began kindergarten, and is doing quite well! He really likes it, although after almost two weeks of sleeping in and wearing p.j.s until noon, I am not sure that he will be as happy to go back on Wednesday.

I began teaching preschool three days a week and put on my first "musical". This is no easy task to pull off with sixty something kids ranging from 20 months to 5 years. Thankfully, with much prayer, it came and went and the parents were pleased.

The "Year of Transition" also saw Zach fazing out of being a little boy and more into being a big boy. He lost his first tooth (and is currently working on losing #3), he is learning how to read, he completed his third season of soccer, and he played T-ball for the first time.

Finally, in the "Year of Transition" we learned how to live small town life. That was the inspiration for the title of our blog, "Grow Where You Are Planted." We all began to really put down some roots here and to embrace our lives here. We learned to complain less, to enjoy the simple things, and to focus on what is truly important in life. Yes, we still enjoy our occasional trips to the big city, but now we look forward to being back home!

With our Technology and Transition in 2007, we learned a lot. We learned that change can be good. Change can be hard....but it can be very, very good.
